The Clearing Folk Art school history with Mertha Fulkerson!

The Contemporary fine art of fiber wall sculptures and hangings by Wendy Carpenter reveal her personal expressionism style derived from borderline “abstract-literal” interpretations. Her work captures the emotion and power of objects through abstracting the natural world.

“Sister Trees”

In 2010 The Clearing commissioned me to create a fiber wall sculpture in memory of Mertha Fulkerson; who aided Jen Jenson’s vision for the clearing for 26 years.

Mertha was an avid weaver during the 30’s and 40’s. “Sister Trees” (a well known Clearing land mark) fiber art shadow box is woven with Mertha’s  hand weaved drapery fabric.
