FIBER
WALL SCULPTURE
3-day
workshop
Time:
10-4
Tuition: $200
Materials: $30-40
Students select the dates to schedule a
3 day
workshop---four students minimum.
Studio apartment available onsite
Wendy Carpenter will be teaching students how to create
strong compositions and 3d forms, blend colors and work
with a variety of found-objects and textures. she will
introduce unique tapestry weaving techniques, twisted
threading methods and mix media basketry coiling.
Students will initially create their design on paper and
refer back to their drawing for designing decisions.
Each student will be warping a metal frame; iron
structures can be found in old barns and scrap metal
yards. Simple steel hoops can also be purchased in hobby
shops or a frame can be custom fabricated. Please refer
to Wendy’s website, www.interfibers.com, for iron wall
sculpture examples, click portfolio and iron wall
sculpture.
It is Wendy's hope that this class will provide a fun
vehicle for students to experiment with creating art on
an intuitive level… a process of allowing ourselves to
let go and play. Shown are two of Wendy’s, 2008,
off-loom fiber wall sculptures: black and white tapestry
on a 3' circle and mix media coiled cedar trees. Most
Students can complete a 2’ form in 3 days. .
