Hi there! Wendy Carpenter here at Interfibers Studio Gallery. I am having a special “Holiday Clothing Sale” in Green Bay on November 12th, noon-3pm. The event will be held at Lisa Iapalucci’s house, 1916 Deckner street. I work with the indigenous weavers of Guatemala, teaching them how to design and sew contemporary garments with their hand weaved jaspe’ fabric. I just finished making a fiber wall sculpture sample for our workshop! I needed to see what we could design off-loom, that is portable, weaving with fabric, and dimensional! This weaving project can also be repeated and expanded a bond at home with various frames . You will complete a creative high-quality art piece! We will start with a half-day at the market buying fabric for the workshop and also fabric for sewing a jacket at home. Creating Revenue through the Arts-Holiday Sale Event
“Creating Revenue through the Arts” mission project was developed eight years ago by Wendy Carpenter. Every year Wendy travels to Guatemala to work with the Mayan communities for three months. She teaches the women how to make contemporary clothing patterns, sew on machines, and market the clothing sewn with their beautiful hand weaved jaspe’ fabric. Wendy’s fair trade wage and volunteer teaching time provide a specialized skill and higher standard of living for the women, their families, and the Mayan community as a whole.
