I really enjoy the artist-client exchange that takes place during the process of designing a custom artwork! The unknown, the letting go...it can be a little nerve-racking for the customer! What I like about the process of custom designing is the group brainstorming, the unfolding of ideas, colors choices, and form possibilities! "Sail" is a contemporary fine art of fiber wall sculpture by Wendy Carpenter, it reveals her personal expressionism style derived from borderline “abstract-literal” interpretations, executed through form, color, and tactile materials. “Sail  Sculpture” is hand weaved on an iron frame measuring 4’x4’. It is Carpenter's personal interpretation of wind movement across the water.

I just finished making a fiber wall sculpture sample for our workshop! I needed to see what we could design off-loom, that is portable, weaving with fabric, and dimensional! This weaving project can also be repeated and expanded a bond  at home with various frames . You will complete a creative high-quality art piece! We will start with  a half-day at the market buying fabric for the workshop and also fabric for sewing a jacket at home. Students will start with making paper pulp with natural fibers ( hemp, paper wasp hives, pine needles) and continue with learning how to pull fiber pulp from a wet vat. The dry paper sheets will then be cut into strips and semi-dry paper rolled for making rigid paper rods. The paper strips or rods are then hand woven on a one-foot square steel frame. Multiple steel frames can also be purchased ($15) for 3-Dimensional designs or murals.
