My fair trade wage and volunteer teaching time provide a specialized skill and higher standard of living for the indigenous communities. I have a deep respect for how the indigenous people have persevered to preserve their lifestyle. How hard they work and how loyal they can be. Wendy Carpenter “Sister Trees” In 2010 The Clearing commissioned me to create a fiber wall sculpture in memory of Mertha Fulkerson; who aided Jen Jenson’s vision for the clearing for 26 years. Mertha was an avid weaver during the 30’s and 40’s. “Sister Trees” (a well known Clearing land mark) fiber art shadow box is woven with Mertha’s hand weaved drapery fabric....
